Now every team and tactician uses positional play in its basic definition i.e. coordinated movement and positioning. But what makes Germany stand out from Italy?
The Modern Game
The modern game is faster, more technical and demanding higher levels of intelligence due to its tactical emphasis. Attacks are more diverse, defences are better organized and there is a higher awareness of transition moments.
The Counter Attack is no longer the dominant style of choice; teams are seeking to be more proactive rather than being reactive. The Long ball attack is loosing favor to shorter passes. Pressing, rather than compaction, has taken precedence during defending. A team that sits back might get the results but its becoming harder to win without dominating the ball
